Apply for Prince Henry Scholarships by April 10
FALL RIVER — Students of Portuguese descent from Fall River area schools may apply for the annual Fall River Chapter of the Prince Henry Society scholarships. Applications must be submitted or postmarked by April 10.
This scholarship is only open to students graduating from Atlantis Charter School, Bishop Connolly, Durfee, Diman, Case, Seekonk, Somerset Berkley, Tiverton and Westport high schools. Students who live in Greater Fall River but attend other area schools should contact the New Bedford or Taunton chapters to see if they are eligible for their scholarships.
Students can get applications from their high school guidance counselor, St. Anthony of Padua Credit Union, Rockland Trust in Somerset, and Alexandra’s Boutique.
Students must be of Portuguese descent, write an essay about the influence of their culture, and submit transcripts, financials and letters of recommendations. Applications are accepted from guidance counselors and reviewed by a committee of members. Scholarships are awarded each June.
In addition to scholarships, the Prince Henry Society provides community assistance, and maintains local monuments including the Prince Henry statue on Eastern Avenue and the Gates of the City.
